Mature Students

If you are 18 years of age or older before the beginning of classes and you do not have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or its equivalent, you may apply as a mature student. Students who do not meet the admission requirements from their academic transcripts/degrees ECA assessment, or cannot arrange an ECA may also complete a mature student assessment to determine their readiness for college studies.

All mature student applications are considered individually; assessment to determine readiness for college studies may be required.

Can-College Offers two MCU (Ministry of Colleges & Universities, Ontario) pre-approved testing platforms:

  • CAAT - (In-person paper-based format)
  • Wonderlic (Online)

Mature student testing may be required for applicants who may have a condition to meet the additional or alternate admission requirements for their specific programs. In that case, a student may be requested by the admissions office to complete one of the above pre-approved Mature Student Assessment (“MSA”) tests.

MSA assessments and scores are regarded as a starting point for the establishment of minimum scores within specific educational programs and additional admission requirements, if applicable.

This requirement must be met on or before the starting date of your program.

Ho to register for the test or RCA

The MSA test is administered by an independent third party “Can-Am Data Management”. You can purchase this test from the third party or have the college register that for you. The test itself is conducted by “Wonderlic” testing system. All related fees, if collected for this test, are separate from the college admission application processing fee or LOA fees. Students may provide the results of this test before the start of the program or if the test is required at the time of admission approval stage.
Alternatively, the students may arrange an ECA report and provide a valid copy for assessment.

Please note that both options are delivered and assessed by independent third parties, and students will be paying associated fees directly to the service providers. The college can also facilitate the MSA test process via its LMS system..

Canadian Career Education College has set the minimum acceptable scores for the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam (“SLE”).

The Wonderlic SLE is an exam that is given to students for admissions and placement purposes. Similar to an IQ test, but with far fewer questions, the Wonderlic exam measures a student's cognitive abilities.

a test can be broken down into 4 basic categories: Math, Logic, Verbal Reasoning, and General Knowledge.

The SLE is designed to assess your cognitive abilities through a series of multiple-choice questions that test your logic, math and reasoning skills. It’s similar to a miniature IQ test.

The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST) is a short-form examination that evaluates high school level math and language skills. It is used as a placement test in academic programs.

Your program selection and admission assessment will determine which test (SLE or WBST) will be required for your admission. If you have a higher education credential such as a diploma or degree in a science subject(s) matching program delivery and background, you may get WBST. If you do not have any science subject or a higher diploma or degree, you may get SLE.

This score will determine not only meeting admission requirements and/or equivalency of Canadian secondary level education; this assessment will also serve the purpose of students entering Can-College solely based on the results of this test and without requiring any other educational credential(s).

In addition, the equivalency matching the program titles provided with the titles listed within the U.S. Department of Labor’s O*NET database is recognized worldwide and may assist prospective employers in Canada to judge your competency for a related occupational title.

Wonderlic is an independent third-party test provider that utilizes this database as a framework for determining occupational minimum scores based on the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position. This determination is based on guidance provided by the U.S. Department of Education, as well as additional research and feedback.

This Wonderlic test is pre-approved by the MCU (Ministry of Colleges & Universities, Ontario, Canada).
