Mr. Steve J
College Instructor, CPD Educator,
We feel extremely fortunate to have acquired the talents and experience of Steve Joakim as our lead for the Hospitality Division. Steve brings with him a wide background in Hotels, Restaurants, Tourism, Entrepreneurship, Consulting, Sales and Education.
Steve has worked in the Hospitality Industry since he was a teenager at McDonalds and hasn’t stopped! He graduated from Centennial College in 1989 with a diploma in Hospitality Management and was fortunate to spend time working at the world famous Banff Springs Hotel in Alberta and the Algonquin Hotel in New Brunswick, which are both part of the Fairmont Hotel Chain.
After graduating Steve spent the 10 next years working at properties in the Sheraton and Delta Hotel chains. His first job was Food & Beverage Controller, which made him the youngest manager in that hotels history. He also worked as a Banquet Manager, Room Service Manager and Duty Manager.
In the next phase of his career Steve spent 10 years as the first ever Corporate Trainer in Bevinco (now Sculpture Hospitality) where he developed and delivered training for new franchisees. This included training of proprietary software, inventory control, sales and marketing . He also managed the International Franchisees Convention, and was in charge of meeting space, audio/video, food and beverage, guest speakers and the educational content of the meetings.
Then, armed with the experience he had gained so far, Steve purchased and ran his own home-based franchise for 10 years and in the process, literally worked with 100’s of hospitality owners to improve their businesses operations .
At this point, Steve had a desire to share the knowledge he had amassed over those 30 years and in 2017 started his teaching career with Seneca College, and in his first year taught a wide variety of courses like Dining Room Management, Business Administration, Sales & Relationship Building plus Marketing.
Steve’s passion for teaching and years of experience make him the perfect fit for our organization.
