Admission Requirements for International Students
Can-College Admission Process: a Brief Overview
The complete admission process from beginning to end can range from 30 to 45 days.
C.C.E.C.'s
admissions process begins with an initial assessment and an offer for
admission. If all required documents are completed and submitted, our
admission team may make an offer in approximately a month. However, if
there documents missing or incomplete, the processing time may vary.
Moreover,
there are several steps involved to complete documentation for a final
decision. This information is relayed to the student applicant in the
form of an LOA (Letter of Acceptance). The initial offer for admission
is not an LOA. The admissions office examines documents received from
the applicant and may make an offer with a decision for admission, which
is the first step in the process.
Once an offer is received, the
student then has 30 days to consider and if they agree to our terms,
they may proceed with paying the LOA fee and move on to the next step.
Once the LOA fee is paid, we examine all documents and information again
for completeness, and then the applicant gets final documentation to
apply for a visa.
Step-by-Step Guide for Program Registration - International Students
Step 1: Choose a program of interest and apply for admission.

The academic requirement for each program varies, so make sure you are aware of what is required prior to applying.
We prioritize complete applications that include all documents required to make an admission decision.
We receive far more applications than spaces available. We may not have the capacity to admit all applicants who meet the minimum general and program-specific requirements. As a result, we process international applications on a selective basis. Programs can close earlier than the deadline date if enrollment capacity for the program is achieved prior to the deadline date. Submission of an application does not guarantee an offer of enrollment in a program.
Applicant must have the following minimum credentials/required documents for enrollment consideration.
Copy of Government Issued ID (e.g. Passport Bio Data Page, Government ID card with photo, etc.)
Copy of Proof of Status in Canada (If you are currently in Canada.)
Copy of Proof of Name Change**, if applicable (e.g. Name Change Affidavit)
Copy of Secondary School Certificate or another degree/diploma which is equaling to at least a Canadian Secondary School Certificate or
ECA or MSA (if applicable).MSA-Mature student status may be granted to applicants who are over 19 years old and do not have a high school diploma or GED. It is intended to allow applicants who have not completed high school the opportunity to be considered for admission based on the skills and experience they have acquired since leaving school.
Be 18 years of age or older at the time of registration.
Accept LOA (Letter of Acceptance)
**A
proof of name change is required if the name on your ID does not match
the name on your educational credential(s). Note that marriage
certificates are NOT proof of a legal name change.
International Credentials: C.C.E.C. considers the same academic preparation as is required for college or university entrance in that country:Successful graduation from an academic secondary school program or equivalent, or
Students are 18 years of age or older and pass a qualifying test that has been approved by the Superintendent, or
Meet other academic qualifications or minimum age requirements established as a condition of the Superintendent’s approval of the program, and
Have met all additional admission requirements established by C.C.E.C. for the program. Such as the English language Assessment.
Pass an aptitude evaluation if required.
Each
C.C.E.C. program/course is different and has its own subjective
admission/registration requirement. Students are encouraged to read
carefully course admission criteria-related details before applying.
C.C.E.C. may admit students who do not meet the admission requirements
of a program on a provisional basis (e.g., Register or sign a contract
for the delivery of a program).
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
The medium of instruction at C.C.E.C. is English. It is important that
the student has English speaking and writing skills in order to keep up
with the curriculum. In case English is not the first language, the
candidate is required to demonstrate proficiency in English by
submitting results of one of the following:
If you will not be taking IELTS but taking a test other than IELTS,
there are many options. Most post-secondary institutions accept English
proficiency test results from tests, such as TOEFL and CAEL.
If you are looking for post-secondary institutions that do not have
English requirements, C.C.E.C. is one of them and has other options
available. Even if you are not taking any English proficiency test, you
will still need to prove your English proficiency level. Most of the
Canadian universities and colleges have ESL (English as a Second
Language) or English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programs on their own,
or with their partner language schools. You can study English with the
ESL or EAP program and achieve the institution’s required English
proficiency level to start as a full-time student at your choice of
institution. IELTS Academic Module with an overall band of 5.5 or more
TOEFL result with a score of 80 (online) or 550 (paper-based)
MELAB with a score of 80
PTE (Academic) with a minimum 50 overall
Minimum of 3 years of full-time study at a school from a country on the exemption list. A letter from the institution or the transcript justifying the medium of instruction must be submitted for evaluation. (List of Countries: Exemption from Providing Proof of English Proficiency)
If students do not have one of the above, then they must enroll in ESL** with C.C.E.C. with a Conditional Letter of Acceptance:
- Completion of C.C.E.C.'s ESL Advanced Program with a minimum of 60% (Ref. Gov. Canada Directions Concerning ESL, FSL Courses)
Step 3: Find Out When to Apply
Before starting the application, refer to theCurrent Schedule and Enrolment Status page for the intake schedule.
In general, we recommend applying at least six months prior to the start date of the program. For example, applying before February 1 is ideal if you want to start school in September. At Can-College, the admission process has several steps and can take 20–45 days.
Due to the high volume of applications received, we are not able to provide exact processing times. However, the current application processing time is approximately 2-3 weeks.
Processing time starts when we receive a complete application. Please note that we will not begin reviewing applications or issuing offers until you have submitted all required documents and information.
We are currently accepting/reviewing applications and processing offers as per the admissions cycle mentioned under each program on the admission application page/program list.
Step 4: Apply Online
Applying to C.C.E.C. as an international student is easy. Once you have decided which program you would like to apply for, complete and submit your application online by attaching scanned copies of necessary supporting documents. Step 5: Admission Offer and Acceptance
If your application is complete and C.C.E.C. accepts your application for a specific program, you will receive a formal offer of admission via email. You must respond to it by the expiry date noted on your offer letter/documentation. To verify the legitimacy of your offer, you can verify it yourself or send an email (include your full name and reference number in the email). To accept the offer, refer back to your offer letter for instructions.
Conditional Admission
Through EAP (ESL)*
Applicants from eligible countries who do not meet C.C.E.C.'s English
language entry requirements may be offered a conditional acceptance for
a diploma or other post-secondary programs, which will be subject to the
successful completion of the English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
program from Can-College or other designated institutions.
Through MSS/MSA
Mature student status may
be granted to applicants who are over 19 years old and do not have a
high school diploma or GED. It is intended to allow applicants who have
not completed high school the opportunity to be considered for
admission based on the skills and experience they have acquired since
leaving school.
If a prospective student does not have a grade 12 education certificate
which is equivalent to a Canadian secondary school certificate due to
any reason, the college will still consider the student for admission to
its programs if the student passes a qualifying test that has been
approved by the Superintendent (The Ministry of Training, Colleges and
Universities Ontario).
Step 6: Letter Of Acceptance (LOA)
After we receive your complete offer of acceptance as per Step 5, it will be reviewed by our admissions officers once again.
At this point, if all required documents** and all fees/payments are in order, we will issue a Letter of Acceptance
and send it via email. This letter must be included in your study
permit (visa) application to the Canadian Immigration Office at the
Canadian Embassy or Consulate.
*For
applicants from some countries (e.g., countries where English is the
first/official language and countries in South Asia), we are not able to
provide the option of a Letter of Acceptance to the Can-College English
for Academic Purposes Program (EAP) as it has been our experience that
study permit applicants from specific countries are rejected by the
Canadian visa office for a study permit (visa) when there is an ESL
(English as a Second Language) component requested. For applicants from
South Asian countries (India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka) it
is highly recommended to submit official TOEFL or IELTS scores.
